Meghalaya - The Kingdom of Clouds

India's North East is always the desired place for me. As this region is not much evolved to modern civilization, here you'll find the real beauty of nature. So, the journey date came, 19th Feb. With our teammates, we came to Howrah Jn. Our boarding train 12345 Saraighat Express was on time. Next day in the morning at 9.15 am. The train entered Kamakhya Jn. With hills in the far background, the station is quite pretty. The train stopped there for 2 hours!

At last, we reached our destination station, the next station, Guhawati. It was noon & taking lunch in a restaurant we hired a car to reach Shillong. It took 3 hours. When we reached Shillong, it was just the evening. Keeping luggage in the hotel, we came out on foot. Shillong Mall was a few minutes walk from our hotel. As usual, we reached there. It was crowdy. The weather was too much perfect. We roamed around the shops. Taking dinner at a restaurant, we came back to the hotel.

Next day- we became ready in the morning for an outing. Our hired car was waiting for us at Shillong Taxi stand. At first, we went to Elephant Falls. The falls don't look like an elephant at all. It's too big & 3 folded.

Next place was the Living Root Bridge at Riwai Village. It's a wonderful creation of nature. It is much below to the normal plane. We had to come down through stoned steps to reach there.

Our next vising place was the cleanest village of Asia, Mawlynnong. In the way, we stopped near Wonder Rock - it is basically a big rock which is balanced through a point with the ground. There was nothing special in Mawlynnong.

We took lunch here. After lunch, we entered the car again. This time, our destination was Dwaki - the Indo-Bangladesh Border. People from Bangladesh also came to the place. It's a good place. We took our group photographs with our Jawans. It was afternoon. We came to Dwaki Lake. It is an international lake shared its border with India & Bangladesh.

The water of the lake is crystal clear. We all were tired of the massive car journey. After this place, we came straight to our hotel in Shillong.

On the next day, our plan was to go to Cherrapunjee, 2nd highest rain falling place in the world after Mausynram. One thing is common in Shillong. That is in day or night, stormy wind flows around the city. First place, we visited was the 7 Sisters falls. It was late winter when we went there. So, for lack of water, the falls were looking fade.

It was noon. We took our lunch at Orange Roots beside the Shillong Cherrapunjee highway. It's one of the best restaurants where we ever dined.

Then, we went to the Ramakrishna Mission of Cherrapunjee. There is also a school specially reserved for 7 sisters states' students. After this place, we came to the Eco Park. It is outstretched in a vast area. From here, the hills look nice.

Next place was Mawsmi Cave. It is more interesting for Geography students rather than nature lovers. That was enough for that day. We came back to our hotel.

Next day was the Shillong leaving day. We left Shillong in the morning. Halting some time beside Bara Pani, we reached Guhawati at noon.

Taking lunch at an outside restaurant, we entered our hotel in Guhawati.  In that afternoon, our plan was to go to the Kamakhya Temple. It is a holy & one of the most popular temples among the Hindus. So, in the afternoon, we went there. It is one of the temples, where body part of Devi Durga was fallen. It is situated on the Nilachal Hills to the west of Guwahati. One thing at Kamakhya temple felt me sad that is the bargaining of the priests to get worshipped our worshipping items.

On the next day, we spend the morning time in Pobitora Wild Life Sanctuary. We took a forest safari there. We saw lots of deers, birds & a rhino roaming there. After this place, we went to the Basistha Temple. It is the worshipping place of one of the Saptarishis, the great Vasistha Muni.

Next day was the homecoming day. We took our flight at Guhawati Airport towards Calcutta.

Hope you loved it.
